Love is in the air <3

With Valentine's Day on the horizon, I thought I'd share a few sweet treats with you! I created three little projects for Creative Stamping issue 39, using the FREE Truly Scrumptious stamp set. This fabulous issue went on sale 26th January and is jam-packed with cool ideas from a talented design team.

For these projects I used basic paper-piecing techniques using the Pebbles My Funny Valentine paper pad and masked the sentiments to create custom greetings.

This cute sweetie gift box started its life as a paper cup, which is a quick and easy solution - I just cheated because I'm not one for templates! hehe
I made the cute pompom from baker's twine and added a simple die-cut tag :)

If you want to get your hands on this issue of Creative Stamping click here! There are so many cool ideas in this magazine, and at £7.99 it's amazing value for money.

Happy Valentine's Day to you all! <3

HNY!

Another year has passed, no doubt it will take me until March to realise that I'm still writing 2016! On a personal note, it's been a very turbulent year, but it was also the year that I married my sweetheart and I made the effort to push myself creatively with this blog. Over 70 posts later and here we are! I thought I'd mark the occasion with a post which showcases my favourite places / events from 2016.
Snowy January
My snowy commute
 Rockabilly hen do
Wedding venue
The big day
Paradise Island, Cuba

Clitheroe for the Boucher wedding
Manchester Cat Cafe!

Grasmere, The Lakes

I'm not one for New Year's resolutions, but I will say that there are lots of exciting changes in my life in place for 2017 so life can only get sweeter! AND I've been inspired to sew [from binge-watching Project Runway], so expect to see more of that on my blog.

Stay tuned :)

After many months of silence, I'm excited to say I'm back!
And there's something different... haircut?...new tattoo?...new piercing?
Well... all of the above! BUT I'm now Mrs Helyer! HELLYEAH!

We're married, honeymooned and back to normal life. The next step being to get our first home - at that point I'm sure my blog will become very DIY orientated, but alas, for now I shall have to continue bombarding you with cards and the likes!

So... I want to start by sharing my favourite snaps!

Photobombed by a bust! :O

Now let's talk creativity, I'm happy to say that I put my own stamp on the big day and I was thrilled with the way it all turned out!

The Centrepieces - In a previous post I went into the ins and outs of how I made the embroidery table numbers, the rest came together with a little help from my friends! My friend [marketing exec] Hannah sourced the tree stumps for me, my Pops screwed handmade feet onto the bottom of each stump so that I could feed fairy lights around the bottom [IKEA]. We ate what felt like a lifetime supply of gherkins [ALDI] to save the jars - i spray painted the bottoms of each jar and bought the milk bottles and candles from IKEA too. The amazing flowers we done by our local florists - Blue Door Flowers. I was over the moon with the way the centrepieces turned out - understated, classic and colourful.

The Welcome Sign - I wanted to welcome out guests to the main room with a fun sign. With the help of my Pops, we sprayed a cheap framed picture into a chalkboard and my uber talented [designer] friend Vicky wrote the message for me with a chalkboard pen! [in about 10 mins - there's nothing that girl can't do!]

The Ring Book - I wanted something special to present our rings - and given that the fantastic location was a university and a library I thought what could be better than a book? I used a square die as a template, secured with Washi tape and cut using a craft knife until the depth was right. I freehand cut the gaps for the rings by process of trial and error! I also cut them at different heights so that the book could close without the rings touching. I glued the pages together with PVA and adhered a length of ribbon to the front and back pages with a hot-glue gun.

Other than the registrar thinking that we destroyed a Bible [we didn't - it was a thrifty charity shop purchase!] I think it looked very effective, and makes a stunning picture!

The Guestbook - This was quite a quick fix, a cheap and cheerful 12x12" scrapbook with die-cut letters. I used black glitter cardstock for impact! Our guests wrote lovely messages with big sharpie markers too! In the background you can see big letters, I picked the initials up from a cute cafe in St Ives and spray painted a Heidi Swapp Marquee Ampersand - the only downfall is that the cardboard shape didn't really hold its own and ended up on the floor a couple of times!

The Cake Topper / Flower Baskets / Favours - We wanted a little something different for the top of the cake... I toyed with the idea of figurines or laser cut lettering but decided on a Polaroid picture to co-ordinate with our favours! The cake itself was amazing, made by a super talented friend of a friend Anjali, it consisted of lemon drizzle sponge tiers, with layers of blackberry jam and buttercream filling topped with fresh fruit! If only someone would've warned me that the fruit would tumble onto my white dress when we cut into the cake... my panicked expression was a picture!

My adorable flower girls did the honour of welcoming the bridal party - I wanted the petals to match the colour scheme, they were a quick buy from Amazon. And my best buddy Amy [designer] created the floral baskets using her Cricut Explore machine from coral cardstock [used for the invites]. I love how easy the die-cuts came together and the girls had so much fun throwing petals down the aisle!

My first plan for favours was to create our own damson / sloe gin - after a lot of research into tiny bottles and bulk brewing processes, I decided to give up! Instead we opted for fabulous personalised Polaroids from PhotoBox, it meant a lot of snooping through Facebook [tricky for the older non-savvy guests who don't have an online presence] but worth it! Everyone seemed to enjoy taking a little something away.

I had planned to make my own birdcage veil and do my own flower arrangements but in the end decided to leave it in the capable hands of professionals! Tumbling flowers and hairpieces wouldn't have been a good look...

I did however work with our florists at Blue Door Flowers to get the look I wanted including spray painting the gherkin jars I collected, and had the veil custom made with a mood board of ideas!

Photography was a big deal to me, [having studied Photography at uni myself] we felt it was important to ask someone who understood that we didn't want posed shots and awkward cliche pictures. I asked a friend from university - Jessica Lang, whom I always had in my for the job! Jess is amazing at putting her subjects at ease, capturing candid moments and putting together a stunning album!

If you want to see the full album, or to see more of Jess' fantastic work, click here!

As you can tell, the entire wedding was made possible by my wonderfully thrifty and creative friends and family. I just got round to ordering our Thank You cards too! It was a combination of laziness / waiting for a discount code at PhotoBox! I can't wait to send them out in the next week!

Well, it's fair to say that I may have gone a big picture mad.. and with that I will sign off!
I promise to post some pics of sunny Cuba ASAP!

Peace out,
Mrs Helyer <3

Hello blogsville,

I'm excited to finally share some handmade crafts for our upcoming wedding!
[53 days and counting...]

I wanted to use my skill set to add that special touch to a few details in the wedding scheme, so far I've made my invitations, handmade custom decorations including a 3D guestbook and I have plenty more tricks up my sleeve...

It's in this very overdue post that i'd like to share my hand-embroidered table numbers! The 6" hoops have been sprayed gold, I freehand embroidered the numbers in coral and embellished with sparkly thread to make the numbers pop! I finished each hoop with gold and coral sequins and backed with white felt for a professional finish.
[Note to self - hot glue guns and wine aren't a winning combination]

Here's the full collection together, shot by my very talented friend Nat, and some close ups to show the some of the detail. I hope you like, I can't reveal how I'm presenting them until the big day!

Keep your eyes peeled for more wedding spoilers!

Hello blogworld!

Apologies AGAIN for my absence, I've been so busy with life and wedding prep that i've scarcely had the time to sit down and make any cards!

That said, I missed the release of Simply Homemade issue 62 which has a rather exciting Hero Arts feature done by yours truly! It was an honour to feature in best-selling multi-crafts magazine Simply Homemade which brings the best from the craft world into one magazine each month!

This feature is all about on-trend colour layering with the latest ranges - a perfect combination for creating a stack of quick cards you can grab anytime for any occasion! I used the Ombre inkpads that i fell in love with on my last Hero Arts feature, and added plenty of twine, Washi and sequin bling which balanced well with the clean and simple look!

The cards in this collection feature the Color Layering Butterfly & Hibiscus Stamp sets and the Light to Dark Peach & Pink to Red ombre inkpads. I can't decide which card i like the best, but know they are all going to come in handy as i'm terrible at remembering special occasions until the very last minute! I hope this feature has inspired you to make some special cards of your own!

Thanks for stopping by! N x

Hello all!

It's been too long. I'd like to think that I've neglected my blog of late due the glorious summer sun! Unlikely... but I have been up many a 'do' and making plans for my Wedding next April!

Speaking of Weddings... I was lucky enough to attend my close friend Sarah's wedding two weeks ago the The Midland in Manchester. It was a beautiful day, the bride and groom both looked stunning as they celebrated with us all!

The theme of the Wedding was bee's and bee hives, so I thought I'd whip this little card up! I love going over the top with dimension [when i know I'm not posting the card!] I made this stunning flower with the free die from Simply Cards & Papercraft 140 and Fancy Pants Office Suite designer papers. The sentiment is a Hero Arts stamp, I love the fonts used! I don't think you can go wrong with yellow and black, especially with a contemporary collection of supplies. I hope you like it!

Sarah and her now husband Jod are jetting off to South Korea for their Honeymoon! They love the culture and regularly eat the cuisine, so i thought why not purchase his & hers Sushi Bento boxes! It's safe to say that they went down a treat!

Me, David & the blushing bride! [A little bit worse for wear at this point...]

Happy Sunday!

A few weeks back i had the pleasure of going on my very first hen do! The beautiful bride to be Sarah is due to get married in two weeks time followed by a fabulous honeymoon in South Korea!

I thought what better gift for the honeymoon that a hand-made eye mask for the long flight and some little travel cosmetics from Soap and Glory!

This project was so easy, even though I had to hand-sew it as my machine is on the fritz! The tutorial can be found on The Red Kitchen website here!

We had a lovely evening of wine tasting, teppanyaki followed by cocktails and dancing! Maybe too many cocktails judging by this pic!
